Apple's iPhone 5G packages may be delayed by Intel

Apple is currently running on the 5G game. We already anticipate that a number of Android devices will be compatible with 5G technology this year, but Apple is not expected to market an iPhone 5G before 2020.

But here's the problem: even the iPhone 2020 may not support 5G.

Apple's provider of the 5G modem, Intel, would have trouble designing the modem in time. According to a report from Fast Company, Intel missed a number of deadlines for the development of its XMM 8160 5G modem, forcing Apple to doubt the reliability of the company.

Apple expects Intel to provide examples of parts of the 5G modem from here early in the summer of this year, with a modem design completed by early 2020. Moreover, Intel has already introduced three different managers for the project, things will be complicated. Fast Company notes that the contract between Apple and Intel does not yield much to the chip maker and that Intel would have been in conflict over Apple's business in-house.

If Intel is not able to send modems in time for Apple to add to iPhones 2020, we may not see an iPhone 5G before 2021. However, the company has indicated that it is committed to always to send his 5G modem in 2020.

However, Apple does not really want to rely on Intel or anyone else. Due to ongoing conflicts with Qualcomm, the company plans to design its own modems for future iPhones. He would have hired up to 2,000 engineers, including engineers from Intel and Qualcomm, to work on his own modems. The new team would design Apple's own modems and then use Samsung to make these modems. This will still not be ready for the 2020 iPhones, however.

It is interesting to note that Fast Company said that "it would make more business sense" for Apple to return to Qualcomm for 5G modems. And this is probably not possible because of the legal battle of the company against Qualcomm.

So, as long as his own modems are not ready, Apple will have to rely on Intel. And find out if Intel will have its 5G modem ready in time for the iPhone 2020 remains a big mystery. If Apple fails to release its iPhone 5G in time, the company could fall behind, given that some 5G phones are already launched this year.
