Apple (AAPL) is expected to unveil four new iPhones today at a virtual media event in California: iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The devices are unlikely to have any groundbreaking design changes or features – or at least compared to last year’s 5G announcement. But there’s a long list of potential feature changes under the hood that could be on the way.
Here’s what to expect:
Display changes: Apple could finally remove the “notch” at the top of its screen, which contains its TrueDepth camera, speakers, microphone and other sensors, to give a less obstructed view of the touchscreen. It could also get an always-on display and a Touch ID sub-display.
Updated camera system: The more budget iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini would for the first time have dual rear camera lenses placed diagonally, potentially to make room for a larger sensor. Meanwhile, the three rear camera lenses on iPhone 13 Pro models could be different sizes and sit inside a thicker bump, apparently for stabilization progress.
Advanced camera features: Apple could offer Portrait mode for videos and astrophotography support for taking pictures of the night sky
A massive storage option: In a recent note to investors, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said the iPhone 13 may come with a 1 terabyte storage option, double the Pro’s current maximum storage capacity of 512 Go.
Other bells and whistles: Support for satellite technology for messaging in emergency situations, faster refresh rate for better gaming, improved 5G chip and bigger battery that promises to last all day
