Among the few computers with M1 technology announced by Apple earlier this month, we were able to get our hands on the MacBook Air. Engadget’s Devindra Hardawar gave it a score of 94 and was impressed with its fast performance and new fanless design. Most of the changes are under the hood of this laptop – the exterior hasn’t changed much. You still get a 2.8-pound metal unibody, 13.3-inch Retina display, a solid trackpad, and a comfortable keyboard.
But you will notice the differences that Apple brings when using the new MacBook Air. It’s much quieter than the previous version, and the M1’s octa-core processor and octa-core GPU run apps quite smoothly. If you’re locked into Apple’s ecosystem, even at the app level, you’ll notice Safari’s pages load almost instantly. Additionally, our performance tests showed that the new Air outperformed all other PCs we’ve tested this year when it comes to single-core performance. In our multi-core tests, it was only beaten by some of the fastest chips from Intel and AMD.
While the decision to upgrade depends on many factors, it’s hard to argue with a $ 100 discount on a MacBook Air that’s only a few weeks old at this point. And since you get Apple’s latest and greatest chipset, it’s an even better opportunity if you’re currently working on an aging Air and would benefit from the improved performance.
