Apple’s macOS Big Sur launches November 12

Back at WWDC this summer, Apple teased one of the biggest macOS updates since switching to Unix with Mac OS X, and almost six months later, the update has finally arrived.

Announced today at Apple’s big MacBook event, Big Sur promises to be a major change for macOS users that brings Apple’s desktop operating system design closer to iOS and iPadOS much more widely. used.

Laptops with Apple’s new M1 chip are guaranteed to have Big Sur installed as the new operating system is loaded with optimizations for the M1, including a new version of Rosetta that will allow applications not optimized for the M1 to (hopefully) run smoothly on M1 devices. Big Sur will also allow M1 devices to run iPadOS and iOS apps.

If you already own an Apple computer, you can update to Big Sur on November 12 by downloading it for free from the App Store. If you’re a new Apple computer user (Tim Cook says 50% of Apple computer purchases this year were from new customers), your computer will likely come with Big Sur pre-installed.
