Apple’s MagSafe Duo charger finally appears in online stores

Today, Apple finally started selling and shipping the MagSafe Duo charger, an accessory that was announced on October 13 with the new iPhone 12 line-up.

The MagSafe Duo is a charger that uses Qi wireless charging technology to charge two devices at the same time. Apple says it supports all Qi-enabled devices but, of course, it specifically notes that the Duo can charge any combination of two devices from an iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods case. .

The MagSafe Duo charger is just one of many MagSafe accessories that Apple announced in October. Newer iPhones have a built-in magnet on the back that is designed to allow chargers and cases to lock, and MagSafe iPhones also have built-in sensors to detect the type of accessory connected and communicate with it via NFC.

Apple also announced at this same iPhone event that new iPhones will not come with charging bricks in their boxes, and that also applies to this charger. Apple here assumes that most people who buy this already have a charging brick on hand, but if you don’t, Apple’s store page shows what you need to make sure to use the MagSafe Duo:

– 20W USB-C power adapter (sold separately) for faster wireless charging up to 11W
– 27W or greater USB-C power adapter (sold separately) for faster wireless charging up to 14W

Obviously, wired charging will be much faster. But if you like the convenience of wireless charging, this is the multi-device solution Apple designed for you, although it doesn’t support three devices at once like the AirPower mat announced long ago, then apparently canceled.

The MagSafe Duo is priced at $ 129 and ships immediately, with the first shipments expected to hit buyers’ doors later this week.
