Apple’s next iPhone will see several new camera features: report

A new report alleges that Apple’s next iPhone, presumably called iPhone 13, will feature at least three major new camera and video recording features that the company hopes will prompt buyers to upgrade to the latest model.

According to Bloomberg Mark Gurman – who has a strong track record of Apple rumors – Apple plans to implement a video version of the company’s portrait photo feature, add support for ProRes video recording, and to add a filter system to its photo editing interface. All of these changes will focus on software improvements, and while there have been plenty of rumors that the iPhone’s upcoming camera array should be improved, Gurman reports that any changes will be modest and the company has it. intention to stick to the same general physical form factors. .

Two weeks ago, YouTuber and tech critic Marques Brownlee showcased a few “dummy” iPhone 13 models that have been around, and what Gurman is reporting here seems to be largely true. The camera modules look slightly different and the camera module appears to be slightly larger, but the changes aren’t huge.

Portrait mode in the video would be called “Cinematic Video”. It will act the same as Portrait mode in still images and use the iPhone’s depth sensor to create a dramatic blur or bokeh effect. The user would be able to determine the amount of blur visible after recording the clip.

Apple ProRes is a popular video format that professionals have used for years and Gurman reports that this feature is finally coming to iPhone. The format will allow video to be recorded with more data and therefore give editors more flexibility in post-production.

Finally, Apple is reportedly ready to add a filter system in its photo app that will extend the standard and often ignored filters that are already loaded on current iPhones. The new filters are designed to look less like a flat color gel that’s placed in front of an image in a way that’s reminiscent of classic Instagram – basically, just a flat color overlay.

Instead, these new filters will take advantage of artificial intelligence to give images a more realistic montage. Gurman says one of the styles will allow for a warmer or cooler overall color temperature that won’t affect white balance, for example.

If Gurman’s report is correct, these new features, while based solely on software, will not be available on older iPhone models in an attempt to encourage buyers to upgrade to the latest devices. Gurman also says that the new Macbook Pro with internal chips that may be dubbed M1X are also set to launch in the coming months. However, no mention of pro-oriented iMacs was made.
