Apple’s pear logo dispute reaches baffling conclusion

It was David and Goliath’s battle in 2020, with Apple ruthlessly targeting a small business with a logo “ similar ” to its own – even though that company’s logo features a pear (instead, you know, a Apple). But if you’ve been hoping for a dramatic, nagging finale to the Apple / Prepear saga, now is the time to live up to your expectations.

The matter is finally settled, the meal planning application Prepear agreeing to modify its logo slightly to avoid causing a “dilution of the distinctiveness” of Apple. Because who could recognize the Apple logo, one of the best logos of all time, after seeing a small business portrayal of an entirely different fruit?

According to documents filed with the United States Patent and Trade Office (USPTO), Prepear modified the foil on top of the pair, giving it a new straight edge (below). And it seems that was enough for Apple, which has already consented to the change. At least this one was resolved much faster than the messy, ongoing battle between Nirvana and Marc Jacobs.

In August, Super Healthy Kids (the parent company of Prepear) shared an Instagram post (below) explaining the situation and how it felt “a moral obligation to take a stand against Apple’s aggressive legal action against small companies and to fight for the right to retain our logo. ”The company also shared a petition to retain its logo, which resulted in a whopping 270,000 virtual signatures.
