Apple's TvOS gets support for PS4 and Xbox One controllers

I bet you think that tvOS, the operating system running on Apple's Apple TV devices, would not have any major new features, since it was a main TV app (Apple can seriously change some of these names for easier discussion.?) just had a major refresh weeks ago. But today, Apple has unveiled tvOS and it looks like it will be a great base operating system for all new content that Apple wants to subscribe to.

The company will launch TV + later this year, to accompany the updated application and recently launched channels. Together, they are designed to allow you to live live in the TV app and get almost all your main content – from HBO to Showtime, including TV + exclusives, to the usual Hulu suspects or of your cable subscriber.

The most important and most visible change is the new home screen, which begins to play the video from the home page, while it was before obtaining high quality still images.

Finally, Apple has finally introduced multi-user support for Apple TV so you can have your apps, channels, and queue, and let other household members have their preferred setup.

Switching will be via a new control center similar to the control center on iOS devices. It seems that a quick double-click on the remote control opens the Control Center to allow switching between users.

The latest big tvOS update supports Dual Shock controllers from Xbox One and PS4. Apple is trying to make the Apple TV a gaming device for some time, but … it's a bit nil and you have to buy a brand new controller to make it even brighter. Allowing users to use a controller they may already have (or prefer) should make reading Arcade content easier – at least that was Tim Cook's hope when announcing support.
