April the giraffe, whose pregnancy captivated the world in 2017 and racked up millions of views on YouTube, died after her arthritis became too much to bear … according to Animal Adventure Park in New York.
The zoo announced that the most recent veterinary exam in April found her condition worsening, “prompting a determination that euthanasia was the humane and appropriate course of action.”
He adds … “We thank and thank the exceptional collective care provided by the park’s veterinarians and animal care team for keeping April happy and healthy during her five-plus year stay at Animal Adventure.”
April would be cremated after her autopsy and her ashes will be returned to the zoo.
As we reported … millions of viewers watched the park’s live broadcast from April to Spring 2017 in anticipation of her birth, and she kept everyone waiting for weeks.
When the April Calf finally came out on April 15, over 1.2 million people were watching … including us. The baby giraffe, a boy, was called Tajiri.
Ultimately, Animal Adventure Park became the second most watched live channel in YouTube history at the time with 232 million live views from February through May.
Sadly, April is predeceased by her youngest son, Azizi, who was born in March 2019 but unexpectedly died in a Texas zoo last year.
Giraffes typically live to 26 years old, but April hasn’t been that long.
She was 20 years old.
