It’s one of those times when I step aside and let Steelers fans take it out.

The team just allowed their season to end in an ignominious and humiliating way for the Cleveland Browns on the wildcard weekend 48-37.

People are fed up with head coach Mike Tomlin, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, wide receivers and a defense that quickly faded away in the final month of the season.

Oh, and the Penguins lost to the Flyers 6-3 in the season opener.

So I’m gonna cede the stage for “U mad, bro?” It is your canvas, my friends. It’s your blank slate. Have it.

Let’s start with an email from William wanting to rip steel … wait a minute. Something is wrong here.

“I celebrate their victories and I am disappointed with their losses. Anyway, I’m just a fan and can’t wait to see what they have in store for next year.

“What they were able to do was have the opportunity to see some of their young players who will make up the squad in the future, as some players can move on. Hopefully they get some good draft picks and inject the youth, energy and growth.“

What… ?? !! Who let this guy into the treehouse?

I mean, doesn’t he know how “Are you crazy, my brother?” works? Especially for the “post-Steelers elimination” edition?

It is a balanced, thoughtful and compelling response. And that kind of language WILL NOT be tolerated here!

Seriously, William, I appreciate your email and your measured response. But I can tell you exactly “what they have planned for next year”.

A 6-10 record.

Honestly, this might be exactly what they need.

Let’s move on. Don K. has sent an e-mail with the subject “Tomlin must go!”

OKAY. Now… NOW… we cook with gas.

“Everyone must leave. Tomlin always has something to say, but he doesn’t motivate his team to perform. He is responsible for. He created the team and their unruly actions. He is fully responsible for his players and their performance. They have been humiliated and they still cannot act like professionals. When will he be held responsible for his team’s lack of preparation? How many more years do we have to watch it take OUR TEAM nowhere?“

Ah. It’s more like that. We are now at the speed of the game.

Let me answer some of these questions, Don.

• When will Tomlin be held responsible for the team’s lack of preparation? Never.

• How many years will we see Tomlin leading the Steelers? At least one more. And, if they make it into the playoffs again, at least two.

• Is he “totally responsible” for the team’s unruly actions and under-motivated play? No. The players should be responsible for themselves.

I’ll tell you it this way, though. I don’t know how individually responsible Tomlin is for all of this. But I know he couldn’t stop it.

And that must change. If he can’t do it, someone else should.

Jim skips the debate over whether Tomlin is going to be fired or not. He will directly name his replacement.

“I So would like us to read your article on the top five candidates to replace Tomlin. Since (Art) Rooney II will NEVER fire Tomlin, how about writing the article anyway?”

Jim, I could give you the same names that everyone else goes for other jobs. Robert Saleh, Eric Bieniemy, Arthur Smith, a returning Bill Cowher, and “insert name here” of someone who grew up in, around or around Pittsburgh.

For your question, however, this is a waste of time since this will not happen.

However, I would like to stress this point. There are a lot of people in the fan base, the media, and the front office who may be thinking, “You can’t fire Mike Tomlin, who else are you going to get?”

If you hear anyone say this, immediately ask them if, in December 2007, they had any idea who Tomlin was.

Some will admit not. Everybody lies.

Cowher’s replacement was going to be Russ Grimm or Ken Whisenhunt or Ron Rivera. Or Dave Wannstedt was going to cross Pitt’s room. Or Chan Gailey was going to be resurrected.

They found Mike Tomlin once. Come to think of it, they’ve found it three times if you count Cowher and Chuck Noll too.

They can find Mike Tomlin.

You didn’t think we would go through this drill and leave quarterback Ben Roethlisberger out of the mix, did you? Take him away, Larry.

“Seeing the photo of Ben sitting inconsolable on the bench after the Browns game was the end of an era to me. It reminded me of the iconic photo of aging Giants QB YA Tittle on one knee, blood dripping from a cut on his face during a game with the Steelers at Forbes Field.

“It’s time Ben. Love and respect for all you’ve done for the franchise, but it’s time. “

Larry, forget this photo. I would take YA Tittle now on Roethlisberger to start 2021.

What? Too bad.

When? Oh, 2017.

You say he was 90 years old? Really?!

I do not care. I stand by my opinion. Bet Tittle is at least jumping on that bad snap from Maurkice Pouncey who sailed over Roethlisberger’s header and entered the end zone.

Here is what I would do regarding Roethlisberger and his contractual situation if I was Rooney. I would call Roethlisberger into my office and say, ‘Well, we’re not going to cut you. But we don’t keep any free agent. We fire Mike. And we’re replacing him with Todd Haley as head coach.

Now… what does retirement look like? Is this something that might interest you? “

Welp, I can’t go through a “U mad, bro” entry without someone blaming the media. This guy didn’t like my column on Wednesday.

He thinks I’m picking wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.

I didn’t make your first two accusations at all. I took Smith-Schuster’s comments in context. And I did not “infuse” them with anything.

The third thing? I did this. I “roasted” it. But not in this column. I did more in this column. And I’m not sorry.

Wednesday’s post was much more about the team as a whole and not so much about JuJu’s quote. Read it before you get lippy and start a tweet. This column represents 1% on JuJu and 99% on the whole team.

You have one more thing. It was cool. I liked this column. I hated having to write it down. But it had to be said.

Well, it’s hockey season now. And the Penguins ‘third period in their 6-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers was almost as bad as the Steelers’ first quarter on Sunday.

Newly acquired Mike Matheson inspired some skepticism when he came to Pittsburgh. And he lived through it during the opener with some transitional defense issues and at his own end.

Annnnnnd, they are gone !!!!! A pleasant and smooth transition to hockey for “U mad, bro?”

I wish all “transitions” were this smooth.
