Magnitude 6 earthquake hit Greece on Wednesday central and this was felt even in Athens, located almost 400 kilometers further south. For the time being, no casualties were reported.

According to the Geodesic Institute of Athens, the epicenter of the earthquake occurred at 12:16 local time (10:16 GMT) It was located 16 kilometers south of the town of Elasona, in the district of Lárisa, and at a focal depth of 7.8 kilometers.

Three minutes later, there were several aftershocks with magnitudes between 4.2 and 4.9. Greek journalists published a video of residents of Larisa who took to the streets of the city after feeling the first earthquake.

A spokesperson for civil protection told Efe that there are no reports of casualties or significant property damage.

The president of the region of Central Greece, Konstantinos Agorastós, asked immediate evacuation of all public buildings and schools as a precautionary measure.

The earthquake was also strongly felt in Thessaloniki, the second largest city in the country, located 150 kilometers north of the epicenter. Greek seismologist Vassilis Karathanasis told local television that the earthquake was felt across Greece.
