Canadian Federal Police say at least 69 people died suddenly between Monday and Tuesday in the Vancouver area, amid the heat wave hitting western Canada and parts of the northwestern United States .
“We believe the heat contributed to most of the deaths,” a police statement said, adding that most of the victims are elderly.

Vancouver, located on the Pacific coast, has recorded temperatures above 30 degrees for several days, well above the 21 on average today.
On Monday, the record for the highest temperature was broken in the village of Lytton, northeast of Vancouver, where the mercury reached 47.9 degrees.
