9 years of equal marriage: a conquest of civil rights

The cold of this night was intense. It was already on July 15, 2010 in the morning, but those who were waiting around the National Congress knew that they were going to attend a historic event: with 33 votes in favor and 27 against, the Senate pbaded the law 26,618 , called Marriage Equality Act, which equates the rights of bads and gays with heterobaduals.

At age 9, over 20,000 homobadual couples gave yes, despite an escalation of the conservative and clerical sectors that more than once posed the return of this right.

This law, pioneering in Latin America, spelled out Argentina's commitment to the implementation of equality, inclusion and citizenship building policies. And this marked an antecedent for the sanction of other laws like Law 26.743, of Gender identity, Decree No. 1006/2012 of the Equality of recognition and Law 26 862 of Assisted Fertilization.

In addition, the legality of the family ties of hundreds of children throughout the national territory has been recognized.

So,Same-bad couples who formalize their relationship have the same rights as the rest of the unions: access to social forecasting, joint health decision-making, custody decision, inheritance, adoption and registration spouse of girls and boys born in the context of equal marriage.

In turn, sons and daughters of same-bad marriages have the same rights as others, being legally registered as sons and daughters of the couple and recognizing the identity of their family.

This anniversary is given a context in which Hate attacks and homophobia are on the rise. Last week, a young man identified as being David Palomino He used the restrooms at the McDonald's shop located at the corner of Avenida 9 de Julio and Corrientes de Buenos Aires when a security officer of the company began to attack him. "Damn shit," he shouted.

According to Palomino's story, the security officer hit him and dragged him to the door. The prosecution and Inadi have taken action in this case which, as we know, is not an isolated incident.
