World’s richest man-made firm Blue Origin to send humans to space for the first time aboard its New Shepard rocket, on the 52nd anniversary of the man’s arrival on the moon.

The rocket will take off from a desert in West Texas. The journey will only take about ten minutes from takeoff to landing, and will take passengers just above the Karman Line, an international convention that marks the border with space, at an altitude of 100 kilometers.

The occupants of the ship will be able to float in zero gravity for a few minutes and observe the curvature of space.

The New Shepard launcher passed 15 tests on the Karman Line. However, he never traveled with humans on board.

The capsule at the top of the rocket, which has large windows, can carry up to six people. Blue Origin has not disclosed who the other passengers will be, but an auction is underway to secure a valuable ticket. Currently, the auction exceeds $ 2.8 million and continues to rise.

The auction is scheduled to close on June 10. Two days later, a final round will be held online and live among the participants already registered. Then the winner will be announced. The amount raised will be donated to a foundation created by Blue Origin, aimed at encouraging young people to work in the scientific sector.

Jeff Bezos is said to be the first billionaire to travel outside of Earth, after starting a sort of “space race” with other magnates like Elon Musk (of SpaceX) and Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic).
