Nicaragua: Juan Sebastián Chamorro, the fourth opposition candidate arrested by the regime of Daniel Ortega, has been arrested

The first inmate was Christian Chamorro, daughter of the former president Violeta Barrios de Chamorro (1990-1997) and the opposition figure most likely to win presidential elections next November, and the second was Arturo Cruz, who served as the Ortega government’s ambassador to the United States between 2007 and 2009, and the third is the opposition leader and presidential candidate Felix Maradiaga Blandon.

In contrast, the United States expressed concern on Tuesday for the arrest of the leader of the Nicaraguan opposition, Félix Maradiaga Blandon, the country’s third presidential candidate to be arbitrarily apprehended by Daniel Ortega’s regime in less than a week.

Ortega, 75, returned to power in 2007 and in power since 2017 with his wife, Rosario Murillo, is running for the eighth time in the presidential elections on November 7.
