Coronavirus in Argentina: 17 provinces recorded drops in weekly average of new cases

With the data released yesterday by the Nation’s Ministry of Health, the consequences of the strict containment dictated by the national government are starting to be felt: 17 provinces recorded a decrease in the average of new daily cases over the past seven days. In any case, the second wave of the pandemic in Argentina is far from over, since the occupancy of intensive care beds (ICU) has reached its national record.

If the accumulated cases from each province are taken and divided by seven, comparing them with the previous week, we come to the conclusion that in the vast majority of districts there has been a decrease in average daily infections. This is the case of Formosa (-37%), Neuquen (-34%), The city of Buenos Aires (-23%), Land of Fire (-22%), Santa Fe (-22%), the province of Buenos Aires (-21%), Mendoza (-20%), Black River (-20%), Between rivers (-18%), The Pampas (-18%), Saint Jean (-17%), Holy Cross (-17%), Chubut (-16%), Tucuman (-8%), Missions (-5%), San Luis (-4%) and Cordoba (-4%).

In contrast, the seven provinces that saw an increase in the average of new daily cases over the past week are: Jump (+ 0.4%), Santiago del Estero (+ 4%), Currents (+ 4%), La Rioja (+ 6%), Catamarque (+ 7%), Chaco (+ 10%) and Jujuy (+ 21%).

As for nationwide intensive care bed occupancy for all pathologies including public and private sector has reached a record 79.30%, the highest value since the start of the pandemic. 60% of all intensive care patients are COVID-19 patients (7,769). The total number of intensive care beds in the country, both in the public and private sectors, is 12,851.

The Nation’s Health Ministry reported yesterday that over the past 24 hours, 607 deaths and 29,757 new coronavirus infections have been recorded. With these data, the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic stands at 4,038,528 and the fatal victims are at 83,272.

On the other hand, in the last 24 hours 109,496 tests were performed, with 27.17% positivity. Since the start of the epidemic, 14,861,736 diagnostic tests for this disease have been carried out. To date, 346,361 active positive cases have been registered nationwide and 3,608,895 recovered.

Of the total deaths, 332 are men (146 from the province of Buenos Aires, 34 from the city of Buenos Aires, six from Chaco, one from Chubut, one from Corrientes, 25 from Córdoba, nine from Entre Ríos, 10 from Formosa, five from Jujuy, seven from La Pampa, 11 from Mendoza, one from Misiones, two from Neuquén, eight from Río Negro, 13 from Salta, three from San Luis, 37 from Santa Fe, five from Santiago del Estero and eight de Tucumán) and 266 are women (19 from the city of Buenos Aires, one from Catamarca, four from Chaco, three from Chubut, 13 from Córdoba, two from Entre Ríos, eight from Formosa, two from Jujuy, five from La Pampa, 12 from Mendoza, four from Misiones, three from Neuquén, four from Río Negro, 11 from Salta, one from Santa Cruz, 26 from Santa Fe, four from Santiago del Estero and seven from Tucumán).

Nine people (four from the province of Buenos Aires, one from the city of Buenos Aires, one from Cordoba, one from Jujuy, one from Salta and one from Santa Fe) were recorded without data on sex.
