In the greatest secrecy, Alberto Fernández plans to lead a diplomatic movement today to demand that the dictatorship led by Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo order the immediate release of four political prisoners who were captured by the Sandinista regime to avoid their participation in the next elections and thus preserve their hegemonic power until the end of 2027.

Ortega and Murillo launched a The night of the long canes in Nicaragua to dismantle the opposition which demands transparency and freedom to reach the presidential elections of November 7. This repressive movement involved the arrest of Cristiana Chamorro, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Felix Maradiaga and Arturo Cruz, all accused of alleged treason and money laundering.

Nicaraguan dictatorial marriage has no proof against Cristina Chamorro, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Maradiaga and Cruz, that they were claiming to be presidential candidates in the next election. It is an illegal armed group to put an end to the politico-institutional resistance to the Sandinista regime, isolated since the massacre committed in 2018 to perpetuate itself in power.

It’s not that dictators Ortega and Murillo only have four political prisoners behind bars. But the loss of freedom and the danger of death for Cristina Chamorro, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Maradiaga and Cruz have alerted the international community. Without them, there will be no serious and transparent electoral process as required by the fundamental standards of any democratic system.

From this perspective, influential Senator Bob Menéndez – head of the US Upper House Foreign Relations Committee – said in the last few hours that Daniel Ortega makes it clear that he aspires to be the Kim Jong-un of the Western Hemisphere. We cannot accept the consolidation of the third dictatorship in the region (refers to Cuba and Venezuela). He and his henchmen must face the consequences of their brutal attack on democracy and the laws of Nicaragua ”.

And in the same diplomatic pressure line, Pedro Sánchez approved yesterday, at the end of his tour of Latin America, a public document shared by Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Panama and the Dominican Republic. This multilateral position – led by the Spanish Prime Minister – expresses “Your deep concern at the recent measures taken by the Nicaraguan government against key opposition leaders in this country, which threaten the free exercise of democracy. We demand their immediate release and the restoration of their political rights ”.

Alberto Fernández also considers that it is time to put pressure on the Sandinista dictatorship to obtain the freedom of its political prisoners. and guarantee free and transparent elections to elect the new Nicaraguan authorities. The Head of State and Pedro Sánchez spoke about it during their meeting alone in Balcarce 50, and the socialist leader knows the details of the diplomatic step that Casa Rosada was going to take today.

Felipe Solá was one of the architects of the multilateral movement to obtain the freedom of Cristina Chamorro, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Maradiaga and Cruz. The chancellor is a friend of Cruz, and is concerned about his political situation – like that of other presidential candidates – given the arbitrary detention ordered by Ortega and his wife Murillo.

The United States Treasury Department imposed economic sanctions on key leaders of the Sandinista dictatorship in response to the arrest of the four political leaders. Among those sanctioned are Camila Ortega Murillo, daughter of Daniel Ortega, and his wife and vice-president Rosario Murillo.

Alberto Fernández does not agree with the sanctions and economic blockades ordered by the United States. This is what he said about Venezuela and Cuba, and he therefore ratified it when he learned that these coercive measures were dictated against the Nicaraguan nomenclature.

However, this time, the president coordinated with the State Department his initiative to claim the freedom of Cristina Chamorro, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Maradiaga and Cruz. It is a diplomatic secret and also a signal to Joseph Biden, who still doubts the credibility of the multilateral agenda that Alberto Fernández proposes as the axis of his foreign policy.

In the middle of the morning, Alberto Fernández and Solá will define the way forward. There may be an unexpected move in Managua, a manual game in Washington, or the cancellation of both gambling until next week. It belongs to the president, who in order to preserve state secrecy, yesterday assured the government that “he had nothing to do in Nicaragua”.
