Keiko Fujimori supporters mobilized in downtown Lima to demand transparency in contesting votes

Peruvian presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori performed in a protest rally this Saturday in the historic center of Lima with thousands of his supporters marching to claim the existence of an attempted “table fraud” after the ballot he disputed with leftist Pedro Castillo.

Fujimori spoke to his supporters two hours after the time he announced and from a platform installed in a truck that displayed a large slogan that read “Democracy yes, communism no.”

While her supporters shouted “no to fraud” and “respect my vote”, the candidate for the right-wing Force Populaire party thanked the groups that organized the demonstration “for asking that their vote be respected”.

“It is the most democratic expression of what 50% of Peruvians represent”She said before saying that she wants her country to have “a change, but a change forward”, the motto she used during her election campaign.

From there, he reiterated that since last Monday his party began to receive complaints from citizens regarding “hundreds of irregularities” allegedly committed during the ballot and that, for this reason, his party presented more than 800 requests for cancellation of votes before the national jury. elections (JNE).

Fujimori pointed out that Castillo’s party, Peru Libre does not want these nullity requests to be analyzed “because they have a dirty conscience.

“I have made it clear that I respect the electoral bodies, I do not insult or threaten them like the opponents do, but what we want is for there to be a transparent election,” reiterated.

For days, Fujimori’s supporters have been demonstrating in front of the home of the President of the National Electoral Jury (JNE), Jorge Luis Salas, who must rule on the nullity requests, which they accuse of being a “terrorist” and during today’s march. several banners accused the body of being biased against him.

As a percentage of valid votes, the candidate of the Peru Free party has so far obtained 50.141% of the vote and the candidate of the Fuerza Popular party 49.859%.

The low percentage of votes processed but still to be counted consists of 65 minutes which must be examined by the JNE to present a material error, a dispute or a lack of signatures, among others.

However, the JNE will not proclaim the winner of the elections until the hundreds of requests for the cancellation of the tally sheets are examined, most of them by Fujimori, after having denounced having wanted to commit “table fraud” during the ballot. .

Election experts point out that this process can take between one and two weeks, after which JNE can proclaim the winner of the election.
