A few months ago, the story of the cruel murder of the nation’s attorney general, Carlos Mauro Hoyos, was revived, a crime that began on January 25, 1988 when the Medellín cartel kidnapped the official and later John Jairo Velásquez Vásquez, aka ‘Popeye’, Pablo Escobar’s henchman fired him.

In 2013, ‘Popeye’ himself confessed to how they planned the event and ensured that the kidnapping was carried out because the drug dealer wanted to make him a “Political trial for treason against Hoyos.” Indeed, according to the hitman, Escobar paid the prosecutor to oppose the extradition of Colombians to the United States, but at the same time the DEA received money to support the government with which they could extradite drug traffickers.

Faced with the kidnapping, the government of Virgilio Barco asked the army to rescue Hoyos who was hiding in a nearby farm, an action which upset Escobar and ordered the death of the lawyer as punishment, it was’ Popeye ‘who was in charge of this death, From what he said he came out to the farm where the man was hiding and before the military checkpoints that there were, he pretended to ‘being a student and so got to the place, there he shot the man three times and left his body in a ravine.

But the stories continue, in social networks they continue to talk about the life of Escobar, in particular his ex-wife, Victoria Eugenia Henao, who changed her name to María Isabel Santos, shares several intimacies about what was the life of the drug dealer.

On this occasion he said that the man had such a big complex with his height since according to him he was very small, he was 1.67 tall, and for this reason he wore special shoes with hidden heels of 4 centimeters in height. top that he had made especially for him and not to be overshadowed by the beauty queens and models with whom he shared. In addition, he assured that he was very embarrassed by a nickname his brother had for him.

“My brother pissed him off a lot and called him ‘banana’. It was the only time I saw him extremely angry. The queens and models with whom he dated were 20 centimeters taller than him, ”said Victoria Eugenia Henao in one of her publications.

Among his abductions and deaths, the name of Diane Turbay, director and presenter of Noticiero Criptón, who was kidnapped on August 20, 1990 by ‘Los Extraditables’, a group of drug traffickers which included the Medellín cartel, led by Escobar, Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha, Carlos Lehder and the Ochoa brothers . The incident against Turbay was given to put pressure on the then President of the Republic, César Gaviria, not to go ahead with the extradition treaty. Turbay was deceived by Escobar himself, assuring that he was going to meet the guerrillas “Cura Pérez” for an interview. Diana died in 1982 after a bullet hit her in the middle of a rescue operation.
