Israel to end compulsory use of the chin strap in closed public places because it records a very low number of infections and deaths from the coronavirus.
“The obligation to wear a mask is removed from Tuesday, June 15,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Monday. However, this measure exempts certain spaces, such as airplanes, social assistance institutions or geriatrics.
While Israel eased health restrictions on its entire population in early June, it still supports various preventive measures for visitors, including a quarantine mandatory.
At the end of December, Israel launched a mass vaccination campaign following a deal with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, which gave it millions of doses in exchange for data on its effects.
More than 5.1 million people – representing 55% of a total population of around 9.3 million – have already been vaccinated with the two doses, and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15 have also been recently vaccinated.
According to official figures, the number of people infected with Covid-19 in Israel since the start of the pandemic has reached 839,000, including three in the past 24 hours, while the number of deaths has reached 6,428.
