Venezuelan opposition to seek support in Brussels and Washington on tour in which they discuss ending sanctions

The leader of the Venezuelan opposition Juan Guaidó stressed that the international tour he will carry out will seek support from the European Union and the United States, and will approach the end of sanctions in the country in a “progressive” manner.

During a press conference, Guaidó pointed out that the tour previously announced by the opposition to provide support for the National Salvation Accord, which will be led by Gerardo Blyde, has the “Objective to incorporate all the factors to reach an agreement and with a view to a possible future (of Venezuela), to articulate feasibility alternatives.”

“There is clearly an interest of the regime at this time in the gradual lifting of sanctions (…). This is part of what we are going to articulate precisely with our allies. We have already made progress for a year on this, there is already a first working document “, underlined the leader of the opposition.

In this sense, he said that “Venezuela needs an agreement that will generate progress,” so “what we are also going to discuss with our allies is this gradual lifting of sanctions, in accordance with the agreement, with which they feel they are safe. at ease, because they too feel threatened for their safety “.

Regarding the tour, he also indicated that he is seeking to “consolidate” the agreement and to work on conversations and the prior support of his “allies”, in whom he wishes to generate “confidence” about Venezuela.

On the other hand, he referred to the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, regarding his calls for investments in the country. “He has been saying for years that the economy was solid,” he recalled, adding that asking for international investment now is “a clear admission of reality, of the terrible crisis that Venezuela is going through”.

“But between the half-truths and the lies of the dictatorship, there is something very clear, Venezuela needs new money in its economy, it needs private capital. Maduro admits his failure in economic matters “, he added, to assert that the petition concerns the “desperate cry of a dictator”.

The opposition leader proposed a “road map” which would end with the holding of “free” presidential and legislative elections and which would have as main catalyst a process of dialogue with international supervision.

Maduro, although he initially assured that Guaidó was seeking dialogue because he was “isolated and defeated”, initially ruling out a possible negotiation, he then declared that he was “ready” to meet the opposition and to do so with the support of the EU, Norway and Contact Group.
