John McAfee’s lawyer in Spain, Javier Villalba, assured that during the relationship with his client “at no time did he show any outward sign that would allow us to suspect that he could end this way” , committing suicide in the Brians 2 prison, as pointed out by prison sources.

In an interview with Radio of Catalonia, the lawyer added, in this sense, that “In case we noticed it, we would immediately let the prison and court know.

McAfee, 75, was found dead last Wednesday in his cell at Brians 2 prison, in Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona), the same day the National Court communicated its decision to extradite him to the United States for suspected tax evasion.

A Martorell court began on paperwork to perform an autopsy and determine the causes of death of the Anglo-American programmer, creator of a well-known antivirus software, which was detained on October 5, 2020 at Barcelona’s El Prat airport for tax crimes in the United States.

When asked if he didn’t believe in the possibility of McAfee committing suicide, the lawyer was cautious stating that “I cannot confirm this information” because “I am handling legal documents and I want to wait for the result of the police investigation, the autopsy and the second autopsy that the family will request.”

Moreover, he added that the family will wait for the result of the investigation then “obviously they will be asked to clarify the responsibilities” and “against whom are these responsibilities demanded”, because “it cannot be free for our system”, he warned.

Villalba regretted that all requests for parole were refused “cruelly and very rigorously” by the national court and it was asked whether, if it had been granted, “it would have had the same end”.

“I think not, I believe that it is a failure of the system that we must study and take into account the use that is made in this country of the provisional prison“, added. The lawyer recalled that he was kept in prison “for non-payment of taxes”, while “we have examples of athletes who, faced with non-payment of taxes, have concluded agreements and have not set foot in a police station or prison at no time and they solved them ”, then he asked himself:“ why couldn’t this man be on the same level? “.

“It was not a blood crime, it was not a narco-terrorist, it was not a pedophile, it was an alleged non-payment of taxes, since he had not been tried and could have been acquitted “ in the United States, Villalba has set up shop.
