5-year-old girl dies eating poisoned bread, brother is seriously ill

A five-year-old girl, identified as Adriana, poisoned death after eating bread that a stranger tried to kill his dog with in Veracruz, Mexico. Seven-year-old Jacobo, the girl’s brother, was also poisoned and is in serious condition at the Coatzacoalcos regional hospital.

The children’s family confirmed that a neighbor had tried to poison their dog before, so they assume the bread was for the animal.

The little brothers were playing in the backyard of their house when they suddenly found pieces of bread lying on the ground. They ate it and there they decompensated. Adriana, the five-year-old girl, lost her life after taking the substance. His brother Jacobo survived the poisoning and was admitted to the Valentín Gómez Farías General Hospital in Coatzacoalcos, south of Veracruz.

Also in the yard was the children’s older sister, 11, who did not notice the moment the two children ate the poisoned food.

The mother of minors, Hermila Gutierrez, works in a school and that’s where the tragedy happened. Her neighbors told her the children had decompensated.

“I don’t know why they poison animals, cause harm to children and kill themselves. Therefore, people must understand that they cannot leave poisons for animals because there are innocent children,” said the mother to local media, adding that her family does. not the resources to cover Adriana’s funeral costs or those of Jacobo’s hospital.

“I say it was a human being, who bakes bread with poison? I haven’t seen him, only God has seen him and is a witness to everything that happens to me. He knows who has me. took my daughter and if the poisoned bread had been thrown away by the dog, ”Gutiérrez added.

The Veracruz prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to try to find the culprit of the homicide.
