A man attacked a Hong Kong policeman on Thursday with a knife and then stabbed himself in the chest, resulting in fatal injuries.local press reported on Friday.

The facts took place at 10 p.m. local time on Thursday in the shopping district of Causeway bay, where the man attacked a policeman with a White weapon, which caused him serious injury, according to the newspaper Hong Kong Free Press.

Shortly after, the perpetrator stabbed himself in the chest and was sent to hospital, which confirmed his death around 11:20 p.m.

“The police strongly condemn these violent acts which endanger other people”Police said in a statement, the newspaper said.

The attacked officer, belonging to the Tactical Police Unit and with eight years of service, suffered a wound 10 cm deep, almost the entire length of the blade that pierced the lung, according to the newspaper South China Morning Post.

The incident was treated as a “terrorist attack”, but later their investigations declared the event as “assassination attempt”.

According to sources cited by South China Morning Post, the man was gone suicide notes mentioning his plan to attack local police “for the good of the city”.

The police are in full alert in the streets for fear of more attacks from civilians to officers.
