Azerbaijan released video explaining the origin of mysterious explosions near Caspian Sea oil fields

Emergency services in Azerbaijan on Monday measured the environmental consequences of the eruption of a mud volcano in the Caspian Sea, the last occurrence of the natural phenomenon in the oil-rich nation.

The rash occurred on Sunday evening near the dashlyg island at the neighborhood of offshore oil and gas fields, with columns of fire reaching 100 meters (330 feet) above the sea, the Azerbaijan National Seismological Center said in a statement.

The Caucasian Nation Emergency Department said that “Helicopters fly over the Caspian Sea to study the impact of the eruption.”

“There is no threat to oil and gas infrastructure or people’s lives”added.

A video released by emergency services on Monday showed Burning flames surrounded by deposits of brown mud in the waters of the Caspian.

It was hours after images of fans circulating on social media on Sunday night showed a Luminous fireball on the surface of the sea.

The Azerbaijan National Oil and Gas Company (SOCAR) said the eruption it had not damaged the infrastructure, which “continues to function normally”.

Azerbaijan is home to nearly a third of the world’s 1,700 mud volcanoes, both underground and submarine, according to a study by the Russian Institute of Geology.
