Despite the fact that Justice has authorized the stopping of sweeps at sea, the cause that moves Spain it has been open for two and a half months and could be extended for 20 years. The Civil Guard is continuing the investigation, although it insists on the possibility that Tomás Gimeno’s body never appears again.

The expert in underwater activities and sergeant of the Civil Guard, Juan Machin, asserted that “if the hypothesis supported by the Civil Guard about Tomás Gimeno is true, his body will never be found”. From the start, researchers believed that man he murdered his daughters Olivia, 6; and Anna, 1 year old, then commit suicide by sinking into the sea.

According to the statements cited by Antena 3, for Machín it is “absolutely impossible” that the body of the father of the daughters of Tenerife appears “because at the depth to which it would have fallen the tides do not move it “.

“At this depth, he could have noticed the decompensation in the ears but almost certainly did not suffer from clouding due to the narcosis because in such rapid falls there is no time,” said the rescuer. .

Machín indicated that “as soon as a body dies, the bacteriological action that causes the gases begins, but being at such a depth, more than 1000 meters, these gases do not expand because they are subjected to great pressure, which prevents the body from floating “.

“Not even if the body had remained floating because, in this case, it should have already appeared and if not, marine life has also done its job and reduced it to a skeleton that it goes to the bottom and from that depth it would never go up, ”he said.

Why the cause could span 20 years

During this time, and as the sweeps are interrupted, the chances of Gimeno never spawning again increase. According to the Spanish Civil Code, for the man to be declared dead, two years must elapse in the event of imminent risk of death due to violence, or in the event of shipwrecks or dives at sea.

Gimeno has an international arrest warrant for the murder of his daughter Olivier, whose body was found on June 11 at sea. For this crime to prescribe, it would take 20 years, always in the case where the sentence of the accused is 15 years or more. 1-year-old Anna’s body is still missing.

On April 27, the man took the girls and made a pact with his mother, Beatriz zimmerman, return them to 21. Never returned.

Gimeno was last seen in the marina in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, when he loaded his boat with several bags and set sail. The scene was recorded by security cameras, although there is no visual recording of the girls: it is believed that he had already killed them and hid their bodies in some of those bags.

The next day, the boat was found empty, adrift and without anchor in front of the Puertito de Güímar, in Tenerife, facing West Africa. There, search operations began.

On June 11, the research vessel “Ángeles Alvariño”, in charge of the search, found Olivia’s body. According to sources from the investigation, two bags were found: in one was the lifeless body of the eldest of the little sisters, while the other was empty.
