Hard blow for the Gulf Clan: they capture seven of their men in Cordoba

At the end of February 2021, the police announced that the Clan del Golfo, a paramilitary heritage group and drug trafficker, has four basic structures subdivided into 22 groups present in 124 municipalities of Antioquia, Cordoba, Meta, Nariño, Chocó, Norte de Santander, Magdalena, Bolívar, Atlántico and Cesar. In the village of Porvenir, in the municipality of Montelíbano, Cordoba, seven suspected members of the Yeison Leudo Chaverra substructure, which collaborates with the Clan del Golfo, have been arrested.

According to the authorities, those arrested are accused of having carried out violent actions against the civilian population and members of the public force in the municipalities of Tarazá and San José de Uré, located in Bajo Cauca in Antioquia and south of Cordoba.

Among those responsible are the pseudonyms “Alonso” and the pseudonyms “Pirata”, indicated as the first and third leader of the outlaw substructure and, like the others, accused of the crime of manufacture, trafficking, port or possession. firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition. For their part, the two recovered minors were placed at the disposal of the Colombian Institute for the Protection of the Family for the restoration of their rights.

“The Public Force manages to deal a major blow to the criminal structure of the Gulf Clan, since it kidnaps two of its main leaders, having the capacity and experience to manage armed structures, directly affecting their organization”said the statement of the 11th Brigade.

During the operation, 9 millimeter caliber firearms with ammunition, cell phones and motorcycles were seized, which were left at the disposal of the competent authority.

On the other hand, last Saturday, the Minister of Defense, together with the military and police forces of the Antioquia region, led a security council on the basis of information that had reached them concerning a possible financing of the ELN and the Gulf Clan at the events they have been announced for July 20.

“Faced with the threat of possible financing of vandalism by the ELN and the Gulf Clan for the July 20 protests in Antioquia; the Public Force carries out intelligence work. We will NOT allow crime to violate rights and democracy, said Minister Diego Molano.

During a press conference, the official said that these illegal groups intend to finance these activities to affect or destroy them. “Investigation and intelligence capabilities seek to anticipate this objective and achieve demobilization and act to prevent these groups from fulfilling this criminal objective of affecting roads, generating vandalism and theft,” noted the minister.

He also announced that the deployment of ESMAD devices, the military assistance and a reward of up to 50 million by whom information leading to the capture of anyone committing an act of vandalism.

“We recognize the tireless work of the Police in coordination with the Prosecutor’s Office, which has enabled the capture of 97 people in the department of Antioquia since April 28, including 17 with a court decision. Whoever does it pays, ”Molano said.
