Bolsonaro, 66, was urgently hospitalized in Brasilia on Wednesday to investigate the causes of severe abdominal pain and persistent hiccups, which lasted for more than ten days. Later, his doctors decided to transfer him to Sao Paulo for further evaluations.

After the stab wounds he received in the abdomen during his presidential campaign in 2018, Bolsonaro underwent four abdominal surgeries that created a picture of his health more vulnerable to bowel adhesions., explained the head of the medical team, the surgeon Antonio Macedo, in an interview with the newspaper or balloon.

Despite his hospitalization, Bolsonaro continues to command the Executive and very active on social networks, posting photos and messages in which, for example, this Saturday he attacked the former leftist president Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, his main rival and favorite for the 2022 elections.

The sovereign’s loss of health comes amid erosion of his popularity and political tensions, with suspicions of corruption in contracts negotiated by his government to buy vaccines to fight the coronavirus pandemic, which has already killed more than 540,000 in Brazil.
