At least 430 migrants illegally crossed the Channel into the UK on Monday, setting a new record for arrivals via the route in a single day, according to data released Tuesday by the British Home Office.

A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry stressed that the executive was adopting “Substantial measures to eradicate an unacceptable problem of illegal immigration”.

As reported on Tuesday by the British public broadcaster BBCnails 50 people, including women and young children, made their way to Dungeness beach (in the English county of Kent) after crossing by boat.

This latest arrival comes after last Sunday the arrival in this country of eight boats that transported 241 immigrants.

According to data from the Interior, so far this year almost 8,000 people entered the UK in some 345 boats.

The maximum number of arrivals in a day – before the new peak reached on Monday – was 416, registered in September 2020.

The British Home Secretary, Priti Patel, it was proposed to ensure that arrivals to the country via the canal are “Not viable”.

British MPs are currently considering a Nationality and Borders Bill that would turn these illegal arrivals into a Criminal Offence.

According to this bill, Migrants entering the country without permission could face sentences of up to four years in prison.
