Fernández pushes the tension with the OAS to the limit: “It does not work and advances on the popular governments”

During a virtual meeting of the Puebla Group, the president Alberto Fernandez He argued this Friday that “The Organization of American States (OAS) as it is does not work” and hardening his government’s position with this body cataloged him as “a sort of gendarmerie squad to advance on popular governments.”

Fernández expressed this during his participation in a meeting of the second anniversary of the Puebla Group, questioning in harsh terms the role played by the OAS in recent years and citing the case of the coup d’état in Bolivia in 2019 as an example.

“What the OAS did in Bolivia must necessarily be investigated and must necessarily be judged because now there is no longer any doubt as to what happened.”, declared the Head of State while affirming that in recent years the body “It was not a meeting place for Latin America.”

In this sense, he considered that the OAS acted as “a sort of gendarmerie squad to advance on popular governments” and noted that the Organization “As it is, it doesn’t work.”

Fernández argued that who should make a “Mea culpa is his secretary general (Luis) Almagro, for the things he has done” and questioned that part of the political power of the United States during the administration of Donald trump is “proposed and supported to a man” like him.

For Alberto Fernandez, “Latin America has a moral obligation and an ethical duty to criticize economic blockades such as those weighing on Cuba and Venezuela”, mainly in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The lockdowns should embarrass those who promote them and in Latin America there are two lockdowns that are maintained in the midst of the pandemic that are depriving people, not only of food, and not just of inputs for industry to produce, but from doctors, ”Fernández said and added: “Humanly, we cannot remain silent.”
