Six passengers on board the Adventure of the Seas cruise ship of Royal Caribbean International, and currently docked in Freeport (Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas), tested positive for covid-19 and were isolated.
Testing is part of the routine the company does at the end of the cruise and offers out of deference to its passengers, as most passengers must test negative to return to their country of origin. The travelers “were quarantined and then re-examined with a PCR test to confirm their diagnosis,” Lyan Sierra-Caro, public relations director of the Royal Caribbean cruise line, said Friday, authorities in the Bahamas said.
Three of the positives are asymptomatic and one has mild symptoms while the other two are unvaccinated and symptom-free minors. The authorities have detailed the information provided by Sierra-Caro.
To navigate the Adventure of the Seas, passengers over 16 must be fully vaccinated against covid-19 and test negative before boarding. Children under 16 must also test negative before boarding. The entire crew on board is fully vaccinated.
Passengers who tested positive and their close contacts have been quarantined immediately after receiving the test results and they will return home on a private flight from Freeport this Friday, where the ship is docked.
