San Juan vaccines: the Russian Fund and Gamaleya dissociate themselves from the frustrated sale

The repercussions were not long in coming and echoed after Perfil.com’s investigation into the complex world of vaccine purchasings, and in particular, the collapse of the contract between San Juan and a German intermediary company to acquire 1 million doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V at 18 million euros.

It was only after the publication of the second note that the Sovereign wealth fund of Russia (RDIF for its acronym in English) sent a statement to this media: “The information on an alleged contract to supply the Sputnik V vaccine to the Argentine province of San Juan is false. The RDIF, the Gamaleya Center and their partners have never entered into any agreements with the government of this province or authorized third parties to enter into such agreements.. The acquisition of the Sputnik V vaccine for Argentina is done only through the Argentine government. ”

Following this official communication from the Russian Fund and Gamaleya, the parties concerned were consulted in this regard. From the province of Cuyo, they preferred not to make statements. Meanwhile, one of the Spanish intermediaries hired by the German company “RuL AG ”, Rogelio Rengel Ros, said the following: “If there is anyone who has any doubts that we have the contracts white on black and everything is clear, I can immediately show them. We are super calm ”.

They left San Juan without a million Sputnik V and now the province wants to recover 18 million euros

After the national government gave the green light for provinces to go out and buy vaccines, jurisdictions found a chain of middlemen and market rules very different from interstate negotiations. San Juan bears witness to the complex world of buying and selling vaccines. So far, no province has succeeded in carrying out these operations. Meanwhile, from the Russian Fund and the Gamaleya Institute, they assure that there are no third parties allowed to make deals and they ignore the matter.

The Fund and Gamaleya had been consulted by Perfil.com to confirm whether the laboratory of Russian origin “Pharmastandard”, where the vaccines for San Juan had to come from, was, in fact, an approved manufacturer. And it has been reported that it does. Once again consulted on the question of whether “Pharmastandard” could have entered into contracts without the knowledge of the patentees, the Fund and Gamaleya insisted: “This was already said in the previous press release. RDIF, the Gamaleya Center and their partners have never entered into any agreements with the government of this province or authorized third parties to enter into such agreements. The acquisition of the Sputnik V vaccine for Argentina is carried out only through the Argentinian government”.
