“The government did not provide the means”: Ciro Murayama defended the popular consultation against accusations of sabotage

Ciro Murayama, adviser to the National Electoral Institute (INE), took stock of the popular consultation held on Sunday, August 1 to prosecute the former presidents and specified that the Institution had nothing to do with the failures of the citizen exercise.

Via your Twitter account, the INE adviser underlined that the electorate was responsible for organizing the citizen consultation, which he called “organizational success”.

However, faced with accusations from supporters and politicians of the Movement for National Regeneration (Morena) party of sabotage for not having installed all the reception tables, special tables or disseminating the popular consultation, He clarified that the INE was not responsible for this part of the exercise.

In a list published on your social network, the official explained that the date of the consultation, Sunday August 1, was established in accordance with the Constitution; since, according to the federal law of popular consultation, published in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF) on March 14, 2014 and amended on May 19 of this year, it stipulates in article 8 that “the popular consultation (s) convened by Congress will be held on the first Sunday in August”.

About the question which was read in the more than 93 million ballots that were used in the consultation: “Do you agree or not that the relevant actions be taken in accordance with the constitutional and legal framework, to undertake a process of clarification political decisions taken in recent years by political actors, aimed at guaranteeing justice and the rights of possible victims? “, Murayama clarified that it was written by Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).

Likewise, the advisor stated that the short release deadline was imposed by Congress, which established that the legal deadline for broadcasting was from July 15 to Sunday August 1.

Finally, he asserted that no more reception tables have been set up because the federal government and the Chamber of Deputies have not granted INE more resources to increase the number of seats; According to the institute, the consultation had an approximate cost of 528 million pesos, obtained from budget reallocations and savings.
