Naomi Rayner, Head of Fellowships at the UK Foreign Office, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO), said: “At this time when the world continues to face huge global issues such as Covid-19 and climate change, cooperation is more important than ever.. The Chevening Fellowships seek to create an international community of people committed to working together to foster positive change. And we do this by bringing together great people from around the world and supporting them, through education, to achieve their goals ”.
Since the inception of the program in 1983, over 50,000 professionals around the world have had the opportunity to further improve themselves in the UK through the scholarship. For the 2022/2023 academic year, more than 1,500 scholarships are available worldwide.
Chevening Program Director Duncan Barker said: “The Chevening experience is more than a graduate degree. In addition to providing scholarship holders with a stimulating and academically rewarding university experience, we immerse them in British culture and connect them with great people from all over the world.
On a related note, he added: “We run an exclusive program of events and activities for them so that they can immerse themselves in the heritage and history of the UK, debate international politics and interact with opinion leaders at various academic, cultural and social events. In previous years, fellows have visited the UK Prime Minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street, climbed Mount Snowdon in Wales, exhibited works of art in London galleries, completed internships with the BBC and visited the home team dressing room at Anfield stadium. “.
Regarding the profile of the fellow, the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Argentina, Elizabeth Green, said: “There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ scholarship profile. We do not care about the age, race, gender, religion or cultural background of those who apply. We want them to have energy, curiosity, compassionate empathy for others, clear goals for their future, and the ability to achieve their goals.
The call for new applicants comes after the previous selection of around 20 Argentinian applicants, who have been offered a scholarship to study at a UK university this year. The fellows shared their stories under the hashtag #ChosenForChevening on Twitter and Instagram.
