The scammer starts a conversation to see if the victim knows anyone who wants to buy dollars (send the photo of the tickets), since he needs to sell them urgently. If the person says they are interested, they send them a CBU number so that they can make the peso deposit with the promise to deliver the dollars in person.

“In the morning, I find messages from friends asking me if the phone number has changed and I said no; and they sent me the screenshot showing my full name, and where supposedly I asked to change the number, “recounted a young woman who managed to avoid the scam to several of her contacts at Chain 3.

The scammer asked him about the family, until he offered the dollars at 172 pesos, as he was supposed to be going through an emergency and needed to sell the foreign currency.

“Then I realized they had hacked my Facebook because it said 9 hours ago they had entered from another device”, he counted.
