Uruguay has recorded its first day without COVID-19 deaths so far this year

Uruguay registers this Saturday a day without death from covid-19 after almost eight months, According to the daily report of the country’s National Emergency System (Sinae).

The last time the country recorded zero deaths from the disease was on December 21, 2020. At that time there were 119 deaths whereas today the figure is very high due to the fact that there are 5,896 deaths.

At the end of December the numbers started to rise and months later the country started with an exponential increase which was reflected in the figures of more than 70 daily deaths in April and thousands of new cases a day.

This Saturday the country recorded 83 new cases out of 11,457 covid-19 tests carried out and, with this information, the South American nation adds 382,360 cases of covid-19 since the start of the health emergency, which in Uruguay was declared on March 13, 2020, including 1,619 people with the disease, including 35 admitted to intensive treatment centers (ICS).

Uruguay remains in the yellow zone of the Harvard index, which cumulates the weekly average of new cases of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, with a record of 3.82 and two of the 19 departments are already green: Durazno (center) and Lavalleja (south-east).

On the other hand, the country’s borders remain closed to non-residents, With exceptions for diplomatic, personal or economic and professional reasons, with the express authorization of the Executive.

Regarding vaccination, and according to the web monitor developed by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) until 6:20 p.m. (local time) this Saturday 313,274 people were vaccinated only with the first dose, while 2,283,752 (64.46% of the population) have already completed the vaccination schedule Chinese pharmaceutical companies Sinovac, the Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca and the American Pfizer.

THE VARIANTS
