Uruguay opens its borders to foreigners with property, vaccinated and with negative PCR

Homeowners can enter with spouses or common-law partners and children. In the case of minor children, vaccination will not be compulsory, as many countries do not yet vaccinate adolescents.

Lacalle said that “there may be a possibility” that these minors are vaccinated for free, but he specified that “it is a decision which has not yet been taken”.

In a second step, on November 1, the borders will be open to all other fully vaccinated foreigners. Specifications on the entry protocol, indicating whether there will be a need for a second PCR or quarantine, will be detailed by the Ministry of Public Health in the coming days.

The president stressed that the decisions were taken taking into account the favorable health context that the country is going through. The country of 3.5 million has 73% of its population vaccinated with at least one dose against covid-19, while 65% have the full regimen.

Health officials have even approved a booster dose of Pfizer for anyone who has already received two injections of Coronavac, from Chinese laboratory Sinovac. The administration of this third dose will begin next Monday.

The high vaccination rate is correlated with a sharp drop in infections, deaths and hospitalizations in intensive care for covid-19 since June.

Saturday was even the first day of 2021 in which Uruguay recorded no deaths with a diagnosis of covid-19, a fact that repeated itself on Sunday, when months ago the country stayed for weeks as the nation with the most daily deaths compared to its population.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 5,989 deaths diagnosed with covid-19 and 382,607 cases.
