The experience of the fires on the Greek island of Euboea, led to the alarm in other European countries. Italy, faced with the effects of the heat wave from Africa, has decided to increase the number of cities on “red alert”, the highest level of danger to health, while in Spain the risk alert fire is developing throughout its territory due to the high temperatures expected from tomorrow.

As of Tuesday, there were four cities at risk, but Wednesday they will double and Thursday there will be ten, ANSA reported. Sardinia, which along with Sicily and Calabria are facing fires, on Tuesday received a visit from the Italian Minister of Agricultural Policies, Stefano Patuanelli, to visit the region devastated by the fires of the last two weeks.

On Thursday there will be ten urban centers marked with the red seal: Bari, Bologna, Campobasso, Frosinone, Latina, Palermo, Perugia, Rieti, Rome and Trieste.

In the case of Bari, Campobasso, Rieti and Roma, at least three days are expected from today with a maximum level of risk. As for the orange zones – risk only for the most fragile – they are nine today and tomorrow, and eight are expected Thursday. With the heat, the emergency due to fires also increases, as for example in Calabria where the danger is for the Aspromonte Park and for Sicily the Madonia mountain range, located in the north-west of the island.

The most serious situation is precisely in the Sardinian province, where a fire is recorded in the fields of Montiferru on the island of Sardinia located in the Mediterranean Sea.

Today, Minister Patuanelli visited with the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Alessandra Todde, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Ilaria Fontana, the municipalities of the province of Oristano (Sardinia) affected by the fires.

In Calabria, the flames have resumed in the infernal valley of San Luca, where the Unesco heritage beeches (forests mainly made up of beeches) are found, which have already suffered fires in recent days, reported the president of the park. National of Aspromonte, Leo Autelitano, specifying that another fire front is heading towards the area of the park which is an integral reserve.

“Planes are urgently needed on both fronts,” he said, “otherwise the whole park will burn down, causing an unprecedented disaster”.

In Sicily, Canadair planes have been in action since this morning in the region of Petralia Sottana, as well as dozens of fire teams and forest ranger vehicles to protect homes. In addition, in Campania (south-western Italy) an arsonist was arrested, filmed by cameras in the municipality of Montesarchio, in the region of the province of Benevento.

Meanwhile, Spain is preparing to face an intense heat wave from tomorrow, Wednesday, which raises the alert to the risk of fires throughout its territory.

According to the Spanish Civil Protection, in various provinces of the country (Huesca, Zaragoza, Lleida, Toledo, Cordoba, Granada, Jaén and Badajoz) temperatures were between 37 and 41 degrees, a meteorological situation that combines with an extreme risk of fires .

The authorities fear that situations such as those which have occurred in recent weeks in Italy and Greece will materialize.
