They detect the Delta variant, but the one that causes the most infections is another

A woman who had traveled to Spain became the first confirmed case of covid with variant Delta, the mutation of the virus which raises concerns about its contagiousness. By virtue of its characteristics, it falls within the expected epidemiological criteria, since it is an imported case. In this sense, the predominant strain is another: the Manaus variant of the virus is the one that prevails, since 7 infected out of 10 are carriers. When examining what happened, other data also emerges, such as the minimum level of genomic analysis that is carried out in the provinces to detect circulating variants.

To the government they assure that the situation is under control, because for the moment there are no signs of additional infections. And they recognize that there is only one solution: vaccinate. This is where the shortcomings of the official program flourish, because although there are over a million people vaccinated in Mendoza and 27 million nationwide, the number of people vaccinated with the full regimen is still low. Variant Delta requires both doses to strengthen defenses.
