A positivity rate lower than 5% for two consecutive weeks is one of the epidemiological criteria established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to consider the pandemic under control, a requirement that Chile has been fulfilling for weeks.

Health authorities have also reported 4,206 active cases (against more than 40,000 people who could be contagious at the worst moments of the pandemic) and less than 724 patients in intensive care, a figure that had not been seen for a year and a half.

Improvement occurs in alongside one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in the world: over 13 million people have the full regimen (over 84% of the population susceptible to vaccination), mainly from China Coronavac manufactured by Sinovac, but also Pfizer, AstraZeneca and CanSino.
