The archaeological site, located in Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, was discovered in October last year and excavations between March and August this year have led to the discovery of more than 80 ancient tombs and more than 10 sites of ruins of houses dating from the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC-771 BC) and the Spring and Autumn period (770 BC-476 BC).
A large number of bronze, jade and ceramic artefacts, including a bronze seal, a willow leaf-shaped sword and other artifacts typical of the ancient Shu civilization have been unearthed at the site, according to Xiong. Qiaoqiao, head of the excavation project.
Xiong added that the site of the relics comes from a key transitional period between the ancient Shu civilization, represented by the site of the ruins of Sanxingdui, and the late Shu civilization. It is believed that the ancient Shu Kingdom lasted over 2,000 years.
