Alberto Fernández: “The defense of biodiversity and human rights must go hand in hand” | The president participated in the UN pre-summit on the subject

Invited by the President of Colombia, Iván Duque, the President Alberto Fernandez participated in the PreCOP (United Nations Conference of the Convention on Biological Diversity). “The defense of biodiversity and human rights are goals that must go hand in hand,” said the president.

And I add: “We are committed to a human rights and gender based approach that considers the central role of indigenous peoples in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.“Said the Argentine president and declared that” a society which lives in harmony with nature is a society which leaves no one behind “.

It is by participating in this previous meeting organized by Colombia that a preparatory space was generated for the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP15), which will be held in Kunming, China, from October 11.

In his presentation, Fernández assured that “the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity are very important objectives, not only for the protection of nature, but also for social inclusion, the revitalization of economies and the creation of jobs”.

“What we need is to engage in the implementation, in the action on the territory, each one as it is appropriate”, estimated the Head of State and noted that “the policies that we are promoting must be carried out in a world which is struggling to reverse the effects of an unprecedented pandemic, with devastating economic and social consequences, especially for developing countries ”.

Also the Presidents of the World Bank, David Malpass; and from the Inter-American Development Bank, Mauricio Claver Carone; the head of COP15 and Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, Huang Runqiu; the Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans; the Secretary-General of the OECD, Mathias Cormann; the Chairman of the Board of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab; and Wildlife Conservation Society CEO Cristián Samper, among other specialists, academics, government officials and representatives of international organizations and the private sector.
