An Argentinian economist is wanted by the Catalonia police: they suspect he murdered his 2-year-old son

The Mossos d’Esquadra, as the Catalan police are called, they are intensely looking for the Argentinian economist Martin Ezequiel Álvarez Giaccio, 44, suspected of having murdered her son in a hotel in Barcelona.

Authorities have asked for the public’s cooperation in locating the man, who is five feet tall and when he fled, he had shaved hair and a trimmed beard, and was wearing a gray T-shirt, light jeans and trainers. red, according to witnesses.

Subject was last seen in the swimming pool of the establishment where he was staying with the minor, but security cameras detected him hours later leaving his room and escaping through the back.

In the footage, the economist is seen jumping up a wall that faces the street, where he is said to have boarded a taxi that took him to Terminal 1 at Barcelona airport. However, local authorities believe the man was unable to leave the country, at least not with his passport.

According to the information available to date, the suspect was born in Argentina and became a Spanish citizen, a graduate of the University of Barcelona and a resident of El Vendrell, in the region of Tarragona, by the Balearic Sea.

The local newspaper Mediterranean explained that not long ago he separated from his partner, who went to live in the Barcelona district of Sants with the son they both had, only 2 years and 9 months. From that moment on, the woman started having problems with her ex.

The survey indicates that a few days ago the man picked up the child and fled to a nearby hotel, where they stayed. María José, a witness who was also a guest of the site, saw the boy and his father playing in the swimming pool, but it was strange that the adult “had recorded several videos of the child to send them to his mother”.

“The father asked him to tell him he was fine”, the woman told the aforementioned media outlet. According to her version, at one point she got up to go for a walk and when she came back neither of them were there.

At the same time, Álvarez Giaccio’s former partner received a message from him that only said “Here I leave you what you deserve”, so she suspected the worst and ran to the hotel but the security of the establishment would not allow her to enter the man’s room for lack of registration. It was then that he called the police and explained the situation.

A few minutes later, members of the Mossos d’Esquadra arrived on the scene, knocked on the door of the room and, having received no response, decided to enter by force. The site was practically empty but when checking under the bed lay the lifeless body of the 2 year old. The first versions indicate that the creature would have died of suffocation with a pillow.

The alleged murderer, for his part, remained at large. Men in uniform checked railway stations, bus stations, airports and the area around the homes of the suspect’s family, friends and colleagues. At the moment, they were unable to obtain precise data on his whereabouts.

Currently, the operation has focused on the mountain of Montjuic, which has a height of 177 meters above sea level and is home to a neighborhood of the same name, since this is where it is believed to have fled, according to the researchers’ main hypothesis.

“Citizen participation is exemplary,” Mossos sources assured the Spanish portal. 20 minutes, who also clarified that authorities considered the theory that Álvarez Giaccio escaped the country unlikely, given that there are several security cameras at the airport and the Argentine would not appear in any between them.
