Woman who won $ 37 million in lottery died sad, lonely and far from it all and confessed that money ruined her life

An Irish woman who won £ 27million ($ 37million) in the Euromillions lottery in 2013 has been found dead in the house where she lived alone.

Marguerite Loughrey she became one of Ireland’s top lottery winners eight years ago when she won one of the biggest jackpots ever awarded by Euromillions.

Until then, the woman was living her life on just $ 100 a week, was 48 years old and divorced.

Money has radically changed her lifestyle, allowing her to take on personal projects and help her family, friends and charitable causes.

“The good job he did is what people should remember.”said Irish independent adviser Paul Gallagher, who was his friend before he became a millionaire.

“Margaret wasn’t standing in front of me saying, ‘Look at me, look how awesome I am, writing a check,’ she just did, very quietly and backstage. A community group was very depressed and needed funds and she solved them with money which allowed them to secure their business and they are still running now but no one knows, ”Gallagher told local media .

But the money also got him in trouble. In 2015, for example, youA court ordered her to do 150 hours of community service after finding her guilty of assaulting a taxi driver.

And last year another court forced her to pay a former employee £ 30,000 (around $ 40,000) as a result of legal action for unfair dismissal.

In 2019, Margaret made headlines for saying the award sent her on a trip “Back and forth to hell”, and that money had brought “only pain”.

“It destroyed my life”, then sentenced the winner of the lottery.

Margaret was found dead at her home last Thursday. According to the police, they received a report of the sudden death of a woman in the Ballycolman Lane district of the city of Strabane (Ireland).

“An autopsy is scheduled, but death is not considered suspicious at this time.”said the police.

She died alone, which she feared before winning her prize and manifested in her desire to share her winnings, as she told British media when she cashed in the winning ticket.

“It doesn’t make sense to have 27million pounds and to be alone. It can’t make me happy, it can only make me happy that others are happy and so far everyone is absolutely delighted “said Marguerite.

Mental health was not her forte, and just months after becoming a millionaire, she was confined for a time under the Mental Health Act.

“It is clear from her public life that she was a vulnerable person and that other vulnerable people were exposed to great changes after winning large sums of lotteries,” Former Environment Minister Mark H. Durkan, who had met Margaret Loughrey to discuss his plans to acquire an industrial complex, commented on the event.

For Durkan, lotteries should not only provide financial advice to their winners, but also mental health support, especially for vulnerable people.

In the years since winning the award, Margaret said the money had put her in the spotlight, giving her a lot of “good and bad” exposure.

“People think you’ll be on top of the world with these millions of pounds, but it’s not a good place to be.” he said in an interview.

“Having benefits, living below the poverty line and suddenly waking up with those millions of pounds, the power that brings, if you don’t know how to go about it, that’s not a good thing.” added.

And that’s how she found the last hours of her life, alone, sad and far from everything.
