The history of the drink began in the Caffe Cassoni of Florence by the hand of Count Negroni, then it spread to the four corners of the world. It was around the year 1919 that Count Camillo Negroni, asking for an American, decided that the time had come to make a change. Then he asked to be added a touch of gin instead of soda, inspired by his last trip to London, where this drink is a classic. The bartender was delighted to meet Count Camillo Negroni’s request and added a slice of orange as a garnish instead of a lemon, typical of the American, as a symbol of the new creation. In Florence, the typical drink of the Count, it became the American of Count Negroni, or the “American with a touch of gin”, this episode gave birth to Negroni, one of the most famous contemporary classic cocktails. The original recipe, a perfectly balanced combination of Campari, Red Vermouth and London Dry gin in equal parts, which is still tasted today with a century of age.

In Argentina, from 1978, this bitter with a sweet taste and bitter touch began to be marketed, which had an early encounter with the Argentines that differentiates it from other South American markets. At the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, more than 3 million Italians arrived in Argentina, accompanied by pizza, pasta and also a strong taste for vermouth and amaro.

It is drunk on its own or with vermouth like in Italy, and it is rapidly gaining popularity due to the large number of Italians in the country who frequently consume aperitifs: vermouth of all kinds, red and other bitters; being part of the daily drinks, not only of immigrants, but also of their descendants and Creoles who adopted them as theirs.

The birth of the Argentinian cocktail bar has a parallel with the centenary of the young nation around 1910 which caused a great impetus in the consumption of all these drinks and the emergence of several recipes of the first bartenders of the time.

The professional Argentinian cocktail bar, which has also been in the hands of eminent bartenders for over a century, and has seen its various moments of boom and splendor, allows Argentines to have access to the classics and to the fore -permanent guard with new trends.
