During his visit to the United States participate in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Luis Lacalle Pou attended a working breakfast with representatives of the most important investment and private equity funds in the world, according to a statement released by the Uruguayan presidency.

He stressed that Uruguay is a bastion of institutional, political and social stability in a troubled world and stressed that the country has one of the strongest and most stable democracies in Latin America and the world, with great civic involvement. He noted that over the past 35 years, Uruguay has experienced party rotation in government, with orderly transitions that have not affected economic stability, judicial independence or the fulfillment of contracts.

Lacalle Pou invited the participants to invest, save, live, work and plan for the long term in Uruguay and said it is a country serious, predictable and with a high level of transparency.

For its part, Minister Arbeleche stressed that Uruguay is heading towards a turning point in the fight against the pandemic and that the economy is showing auspicious signs of a vigorous recovery in activity. He pointed out that the country has one of the fastest and most comprehensive vaccination strategies in the world, which has led to a marked reduction in COVID-19 cases and the gradual return to economic, social and cultural activities of the population.

The Secretary of State pointed out to the audience that the effort is focused on supporting the recovery by attracting and encouraging private investment, both domestic and foreign. He detailed the tax incentives and promotion schemes offered by the country, as well as the distinctive features of Uruguay as a regional business center.

Arbelèche pointed out that the government is focusing on the post-pandemic.
