Coronavirus: 6,000 million doses of vaccines have been administered worldwide | How is the ranking of countries with the highest percentage of vaccinated

A study carried out this Wednesday by AFP using data from official sources reveals that To date, 6 billion doses of anticovid-19 have been injected worldwide.

However, Inequalities in access to vaccines persist, because if around fifteen countries are already administering third doses, vaccination is not taking off in poor countries, especially in Africa.

Global immunization has progressed steadily over the past three months. The milestone of 6,000 million doses injected was crossed in 29 days, after 4,000 and 5,000 million doses injected in 30 and 26 days, respectively.

At the start of the first vaccination campaigns, 1 billion doses were reached in about 140 days.

Experts hope the international community will establish the target of 70 percent of people fully immunized in each country within one year. A threshold that has not yet reached several countries, for example the United States, where less than 55% of the population is fully vaccinated.

The vaccination campaign

With 2,180 million injections, China accounts for nearly four out of ten doses administered worldwide, while countries like India (826.5 million) and the United States (386.8 million) complete the podium in ultimate value.

But in relation to the population, and among countries with more than a million inhabitants, Qatar is the “champion” of vaccination, with 84.47 percent of the population vaccinated with at least one dose (71.61 percent have the full schedule). It is followed by the United Arab Emirates, which according to the Our World in Data platform records 72.85% of its population with the two doses and 81.58, with at least one injection.

Next come Chile with 70.02% of the population with the complete regimen and 77.27% with one dose; Canada (65.55 percent and 75.48, respectively); Denmark (63.88 and 75.44); Uruguay (67.65 and 74.73); Spain (62.43 and 73.94); Belgium (66.36 and 72.87); United Kingdom (61.19 and 72.38) and Portugal (62.44 and 71.75).

As the figures show, these countries are vaccinating the majority of their populations and even some, such as the United Arab Emirates and Uruguay, have started giving a third dose per person, in order to prolong the vaccination of fully vaccinated people.

Argentina, four countries in America with the highest percentage of vaccinated

Argentina, meanwhile, sits 28th in the world rankings, a few points behind countries like France and Israel, which have between 50 and 60 percent of people with a full vaccination.

According to official data, in our country, 29,157,102 people (65.53%) received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 20,572,245 (46.24%) completed the program.

Below Argentina are powers such as Germany and the United States, with 63.89 percent of the population with at least one vaccination and 60.53 percent with one dose, respectively. Switzerland is also below Argentina in the percentage of vaccinated, like Brazil: the European nation has 51.17% of the population with at least one dose, while the South American giant has barely managed to vaccinate 55% of the population with a single dose and only 22.99 with two inoculations.

Inequality

Far below are the so-called poor countries, the majority belonging to the African continent, which have started to vaccinate, mainly thanks to an international Covax solidarity mechanism (WHO, Gavi alliance and Cepi coalition), but this remains very uneven.

For example, in countries like Nigeria, Sudan, Mali, Cameroon and Syria, the percentage of vaccinated does not exceed 0.1 percent.

It turns out that, while “high-income” territories – according to the World Bank’s classification – administer an average of 124 doses per 100 inhabitants, “low-income” countries administer only 4.

Only three countries have not yet started their coronavirus vaccination campaigns: Burundi and Eritrea in East Africa, and North Korea in Asia.
