We are Ready introduced the 11 women he will aspire to the Senate with in 2022

Academics, Afro-descendants, peasants, inhabitants of under-represented regions and members of the LBT community. The 11 women who will seek access to the Senate of the Republic through the feminist political movement We are ready they come from all groups that need greater participation in the Colombian legislature.

Their names were announced on September 25 at a public event, held at the Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center, in Bogotá, after four days of internal voting which were conducted according to a carefully designed method allow democratic guarantees both for women feminists registered in the movement and for those who have presented their candidacy.

It offered voters the possibility of expressing four votes: one for a woman from under-represented regions (Guainía, Vaupés, Amazonas, Putumayo, Caquetá, Guajira, Quindío, San Andrés, Vichada and Arauca); another for a woman who identifies as lesbian, bisexual or transgender; another for an afro-descendant and a last one for the pre-candidates who do not belong to any of the preceding groups.

The said system also relied on the observation of five women from different political backgrounds who sought to ensure the transparency of the entire process: Francia Márquez, Piedad Córdoba, Andréia de Jesús, Beatriz Della Costa and Ángela María Robledo.

It was the latter who was responsible for presiding over the event and, among others, report that 1,282 women, out of a total of 1,604 activated on the We Are Lists platform, voted. This means that about 80% of those interested in participating in building this list for the next Senate elections ended up participating effectively.

The former vice presidential candidate said at the same event that “Hopefully from this the so-called progressive forces and even the mainstream parties learn, of these deeply democratic practices and of so much work. For women, entering politics means resisting and this task of feminizing politics is more urgent and necessary today ”.

Subsequently, he proceeded to the presentation of the 11 candidates to the Senate: the head of the list will be Elizabeth Giraldo Giraldo, who, according to the movement, was born in Ituango and raised in the popular neighborhoods of Medellín. In statements collected by El Espectador during the event, he expressed that the choice is “for us, Colombian politics are not the same today. We are going to come to power to make another power, a power that is generous, abundant, beautiful, for ourselves and for the planet ”.

In the order of votes, it follows Liza Yomara García Reyes, Doctor of Social Sciences and lesbian activist who is clearly part of the 20% quota given to the LBT community. After learning of his election, he declared that “we are a group with arguments but without fights. From my experience as a lesbian, we will express our feelings in this Senate. It is time to overcome the agenda that has separated us identitatively. We have all done what we are going through ”.

Below are Jessica Viviana Obando Correa, from Montenegro, Quindío and part from the under-represented departments; Hook by Jessica Samantha Pereira, that he will be the voice of Afro, Raizales and Palenqueras women; and Magaly Del Carmen Belalcázar, who is identified as a social leader in Putumayo and completes the group of inhabitants of decentralized territories.

As quoted by the Colombian newspaper, the latter stressed that “I dreamed of transforming politics and we succeeded because politics has always been in us. I am a woman of the territory, I bind myself to the land, to the course of the water and today I am in a legitimate approach in what is political. May our march be recognized as 55% of the population ”.

The rest of the list is made up of Lorena Maria Bautista Riquett (afro, raizales and palenqueras), Dame Lorena Robayo Cardenas (Without category), Miyu Alarcon (transfeminist activist who completes the group of LBT representatives), Mayra Ingrid Gómez Castañeda, Rocío Nieto Alarcón and Cindy Carolina Navarro Arzuza (all unclassified).

On We Are Lists social media, they stated that “our list is feminist and we will reach the Senate with a Collective Senate. Here we all win, we are a sum of knowledge, we are numerous, we do everything and we are everywhere ”.
