Joe Biden enacted the budget extension voted by Congress

The president suspended a trip to Chicago to personally follow the negotiations in parliament and in the evening he promulgated the law without delay.

The text provides for an extension of the budget – which expires today at midnight – until December 3 and has been supported by several lawmakers from the Republican opposition, in addition to the Democrats in power.

The standard was first approved by the Senate, with 65 votes in favor and 35 against. despite the fact that Republicans hold exactly half of the seats, according to the ANSA news agency.

“This is a good result, which I am happy,” said Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer before the vote, the result of which had been anticipated.

After approval in the upper chamber, the bill was immediately sent back to the House of Representatives, where it received 254 votes in favor and 175 against, according to the AFP agency.

Regardless of the budget extension, which was slated to be promulgated without delay by Biden, the president has yet to secure approval for his major social spending and infrastructure projects and the impending debt ceiling exceedance.

The stakes are so high that Biden has chosen to cancel a trip to Chicago and conduct negotiations with lawmakers.

Among other priorities, Congress must approve by October 18 the increase in the country’s borrowing capacity if it is to avoid the first default in US history.

Republicans are refusing to suspend the debt issuance limit because they believe it would be a blank check for the Biden government.
