The advancement of science over the past decades and the care that many people apply in their lives, makes the fight to live as long as possible and even ages unsuspected since time immemorial.
The truth is that a study published in the journal Royal Society Open Science, indicates that humans can live up to 130 years or more, a situation that surprised researchers in the field.
In their research, the scientists used a combination of extreme value statistics, survival analyzes and calculation methods evaluate the data for super-centenarians (people aged 110 and over) and semi-super-centenarians (105 years and over).
The study authors estimated the current upper limit of human life expectancy at around 130 years. This conclusion does not mean that people will live to this age soon, since the probability of living to 130 years, if you turn 110, it’s very low.
Hundred-year-old hope
“Beyond 110 years, one can think that to live one more year, it is almost to play a coin toss”, affirmed to AFP Anthony Davison, professor of statistics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Switzerland), who led the research.
However, the growing number of supercentenarians around the world suggests that human life expectancy could reach 130 years already in this century. At the same time, Davison acknowledged that “In the absence of major medical and social advances” people are unlikely to live beyond this age.
